  • One browser briefly reports 0 entries. The second one gets emptied.
  • Writing while a browser runs: on quit, the state is gone.

  • Writes only happen when a browser is closed. If it is open, 1Timeline tells you.

    Choose the browser profiles that 1Timeline may sync. macOS grants access only to these folders.

    Connect browsers

    Get Safari and Chrome ready. You can release more browser profiles under “Add”.

    Sync all, or specifically → Safari / → Chrome / → Brave. With a preview if you want one.

    Let it run

    The menu bar and auto-sync run in the background with your permission. Browsers must be closed for writing.

What that does
to the files on disk.

No service humming away in some cloud: a sync is a sequence of five steps on this Mac — read, compare, back up, write, verify.

    Read

    Choose the browser profiles once in the app. macOS grants 1Timeline targeted access to these folders — no access to the whole Mac and no upload to a 1Timeline server.

  2. 02

    Compare

    Every entry has an address and a timestamp. Identical addresses are merged, and where they differ the more recent state wins. Deletions are noted, so they do not reappear on the next run.

  3. 03

    Back up

    Before the first change, the affected data is copied — versioned, and including the database’s companion files. Only once that copy exists does the write begin.

  4. 04

    Write

    Writes only go to the browsers you released as targets, and only while they are closed. Each file is replaced atomically, never overwritten in parts — and can be restored from the backup taken beforehand.

  5. 05

    Verify

    If a browser suddenly reports no entries at all, although the previous run found some, 1Timeline treats that as a fault rather than a deletion. The missing entries are not passed on to the other browsers — instead, the empty browser gets the shared state written back to it.

And what 1Timeline
explicitly is not.

Limits are part of an honest description. Three things the store version deliberately does not do.

  • Not another browser

    1Timeline does not replace Safari, Chrome or Firefox, and it does no browsing itself. It connects the data of the browsers already sitting on your Mac.

  • No cloud service of our own

    Your browser data stays local. Apple manages the store purchase and app updates; 1Timeline runs no server of its own and does not upload browser data to us.

  • Not a password manager

    Passwords stay in the iCloud Keychain. The app only shows whether Apple’s extension is active; it never touches the credentials themselves.

What gets synced, and in which direction?

Reading always happens from every active browser. Writing depends on the button: to all targets, to Safari only, Chrome only or Brave only. The arrow marks the write target, not “this one source only”.

Which browsers are supported?

Safari and Chrome are on by default. Optionally alongside them: Brave, Edge, Arc, Vivaldi, Chromium and Firefox. Switch them on under “Add browser” or in the settings.

Why does a browser have to be closed?

Chromium browsers and Firefox keep data in memory and write it back when they quit. A write during a running session would simply be lost. That is why you close the browser yourself; 1Timeline can then sync safely.

Which files can 1Timeline see?

You choose the browser profiles yourself. macOS grants 1Timeline lasting, targeted access only to these folders. The store version does not need access to the entire Mac.

Is the data uploaded to a cloud?

No. 1Timeline does not run a sync server of its own and does not upload browser data to us. Safari/iCloud and Chrome Sync remain the browser vendors’ own services and follow your settings there.

Is 1Timeline coming to the Mac App Store?

The store version runs in the App Sandbox and works with the browser profiles you release yourself. It does not need access to the whole Mac. Apple handles installation and updates; the store link will appear once the app is approved.

What does 1Timeline Plus cost?

€3.99 per month through the Mac App Store. The exact price is shown in the store. You manage purchase, renewal and cancellation in your Apple subscription settings.

Does the app sync passwords?
